We are recruiting a Community Support Worker to provide welfare benefits advice, community outreach, and home visiting support to older people across Somerset and North Somerset.

This is a varied and rewarding opportunity to deliver high-quality advice services, supporting older people to access DWP benefits and welfare entitlements. Through home visits and community outreach, you will provide tailored support, helping individuals maintain independent living, improve wellbeing, and access the services they need.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide welfare benefits advice and benefits support to older people.
  • Carry out regular home visits and deliver personalised community-based support.
  • Assist with DWP benefits applications, benefit entitlement checks, and form completion.
  • Offer information and advice services, helping clients access the benefits they are entitled to.
  • Use a person-centred, caseworker approach to identify needs and agree solutions.
  • Promote independent living by supporting access to appropriate services and resources.
  • Work proactively in a community outreach role, including partnership working and referrals.
  • Liaise with colleagues and external organisations to deliver joined-up support and advice services.

We’re particularly interested in people who:

  • Have experience as a support worker, care worker, community outreach worker, caseworker, or benefits advisor
  • Are confident working in a community-based role, including carrying out home visits
  • Have excellent communication skills and can provide sensitive, person-centred support
  • Are able to work independently, use initiative, and manage a varied caseload
  • Are motivated to support older people and vulnerable people, promoting independent living
  • Have an interest in delivering welfare benefits advice and guidance on DWP benefits

Desirable

  • Experience or knowledge of welfare benefits, DWP benefits, or benefits advice
  • Background in advice services, social care, or community support roles
  • Experience supporting older people or vulnerable people
  • Knowledge of local services in Somerset or North Somerset

If you have transferable skills and a passion for supporting others, we encourage you to apply, even if you don’t meet every requirement. Full training in welfare benefits and advice services will be provided.
