VE Day celebration

On Thursday 8th May, The Ridings Shopping Centre was transformed into a bunting clad indoor street party for people to come and join the celebration and commemorate this special occasion.
Tables were decorated and lined up along the middle mall with room in the centre for entertainment from Stevie Cruz and his dancers. It wasn’t long until the dance floor was filled with people twisting and swaying to those old favourite tunes.
Food was generously donated by Wakefield Street Kitchen, Warburtons, Morrisons and Marks and Spencers along with raffle prizes from shops in the Ridings Centre.
Volunteers from Age UK Wakefield District, Wakefield Street Kitchen, Recycle and Caddick Construction served warm drinks, biscuits, fruit and cakes, each person walking around 7000 steps!
The day was joyous, with stories being shared, lots of chatter and smiles. A big thank you to everyone who came along and helped to make the day a success.
