A friendly voice can make all the difference - we're here to help

Feeling lonely can happen to any of us. A quiet house, fewer visitors, or days without conversation can leave people feeling isolated and disconnected. But sometimes, the simplest thing, a friendly chat, can brighten the day and remind someone they’re not alone.
At Age Cymru Dyfed, we believe connection matters. That’s why we’re delighted to share wonderful news: we recently recruited several new Telephone Befrienders across our three counties, and they’re ready to start making a real difference.
What is Telephone Befriending?
Our Telephone Befriending service matches older people with kind, caring volunteers who provide regular phone calls. These chats aren’t formal or complicated, they’re simply friendly conversations. A chance to:
- Share stories
- Talk about your day
- Have a laugh
- Feel heard and valued
For many people, these regular calls become something to look forward to each week. A small moment of connection can have a big impact on wellbeing and confidence.
Who is it for?
Telephone befriending could be right for you or someone you know, if:
- You live alone
- You don’t get many visitors
- You feel lonely or isolated
- You’d enjoy regular conversation and companionship
There’s no pressure and no expectationsm just a warm, friendly voice at the other end of the phone.
Befriending Volunteers
Our new team of Telephone Befrienders come from all walks of life, but they share one thing in common: they genuinely care. They’re ready to listen, chat, and build meaningful connections with the people they support. Thanks to their time and kindness, we’re able to reach more people than ever before.
