Why not swap your usual resolutions for something that lifts your mood and your legs! Age Cymru Dyfed’s Big Step Winter Challenge is live now, so you can start stepping straight through winter. Fresh air, frosty pavements, cosy lunchtime loops; every step boosts your wellbeing and mental health while helping over-fifties across West Wales stay connected, independent, and happy.

Whether you’re wrapping up warm for a short stroll, heading out for a daily walk, or setting yourself a bold personal goal, every step you take this winter could help older people across West Wales live happier, healthier lives.

For a 'New Year, New Me' challenge that actually feels good inside and out, you don’t have to wait for the official Age Cymru Dyfed Big Step launch this Spring, Age Cymru Dyfed’s Big Step Challenge is open now, and you can start stepping this winter.

Your steps and sponsorship support vital local services across Carmarthenshire, Pembrokeshire and Ceredigion. From friendly phone calls and social groups to practical help at home and expert advice, it all helps support older people, as no one should face later life alone.

With limited statutory funding, every step and every pound you raise through the Big Step Challenge keeps vital services free, local, and available to those who need them. Last year, supporters helped hundreds of people over fifty across West Wales with mental health support, befriending, dementia care, digital skills, advice, and even unlocked £2.3 million in unclaimed benefits, proving every step truly counts!

About Big Step

Big Step

Your steps, your miles, your fundraising, it all helps older people in Dyfed stay connected, independent, and supported. From friendly phone calls with information and advice, to help in the home and social groups, your support ensures nobody has to face later life alone in West Wales.

In 2026, every step you take can make a real difference for the over fifties across Carmarthenshire, Pembrokeshire, and Ceredigion.

Whether it’s a few steps as part of recovery, a daily walk, or a big bold challenge, every step counts in our Big Step Challenge!

We take inspiration here from Age Cymru who are raising money in their national Big Step campaign. This local to West Wales Big Step campaign will use proceeds to help local people with core services on the ground across Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire.

Why this matters and how your money will help

Last year, thanks to supporters like you, Age Cymru Dyfed:

  • supported 365 people living with dementia and their carers

  • provided 560 people with mental health support

  • offered befriending services to 292 older people

  • helped 463 older people with technology and digital skills

  • delivered information and advice to 2,684 people

  • awarded £2.3 million in previously unclaimed welfare benefits

With limited statutory funding, every step and every pound you raise through the Big Step Challenge keeps these vital services free, local, and available to all who need them.
