Supporting you through Bereavement: compassionate help when needed most

Losing someone close to you is never easy. Grief can feel overwhelming, lonely, and uncertain and no one should have to face that time without support. At Age Cymru Dyfed, we understand that bereavement affects everyone differently emotionally, physically, and financially. There is no “right way” to feel, and no set timeline for grief. That’s why we offer a dedicated, compassionate bereavement support service designed specifically for older people so you don’t have to go through it alone.

A free, accessible service for people aged 70+

Our bereavement support service is available free of charge to people aged 70 and over living in Dyfed and Powys. We know that for many people  especially those in rural, remote, or isolated communities accessing the right help can be difficult. This service is designed to remove those barriers and bring support directly to you. Whether you have been recently bereaved or are facing an expected loss, we’re here to listen and help.

How we can help

Our friendly team provides early, practical interventions and personalised guidance to help you through the first stages of loss.

Support can include:

• Emotional and practical assistance
• A step-by-step guide on what to do when someone dies (e.g. registering a death)
• Help with funeral arrangements
• Information and advice on bereavement and grief
• Advice on funeral grants and benefit entitlements
• Help identifying what matters most to you and setting personal wellbeing goals
• Referrals to counselling, mental health services, practical support and peer groups

Sometimes you may just need someone to talk to. Other times, you might need help navigating paperwork or planning next steps. Whatever you need, we will work alongside you.

Everyone’s situation is different, which is why our approach is flexible and tailored. We welcome people from all backgrounds and offer a holistic, compassionate and accessible service. We can support you in the way that suits you best, by phone, online, or in person. Ouraim is simple: to make sure you feel heard, supported, and less alone.
