phone befriending

The Volunteer Telephone Befriending Project provides regular telephone companionship and emotional support to older people, carers, and vulnerable individuals who may be experiencing loneliness, isolation, or reduced social contact.

Through a team of trained volunteers, the project matches individuals with a dedicated befriender who offers friendly conversation, reassurance, and ongoing social connection through scheduled phone calls. The service aims to improve wellbeing, build confidence,

reduce feelings of loneliness, and help individuals remain connected to their community.

The project is particularly beneficial for people who are housebound, living alone, caring for others or facing barriers to social interaction. By offering consistent contact and companionship.

In addition to reducing social isolation, the project also helps identify wider support needs and encourages individuals to access community activities, digital support, and local services where appropriate.

The service is confidential, person-centred, and designed to provide safe, supportive, and inclusive social contact for those who need it most.
