Out and about in November

Henny and Ron in Daventry.

We are a local independent charity

We aim to provide our services and support to older people living throughout Northamptonshire, so we welcome the opportunity to attend local events to raise awareness of how we can help in the county.

On Tuesday 7th November we were pleased to take our information stall to the Mature Driver event at the Icon Innovation Centre in Daventry.  These events are organised by Northamptonshire Safer Roads Alliance (in partnership with the police, the fire service and Northampton Advanced Motorists) and aim to keep us all driving safely for longer.  We would encourage everyone over the age of 60 to go to these free informative sessions, which have so far been held in Northampton, Rushden and Daventry.  Keep a look out for future events. Remembrance Sunday-themed activities in Kettering.

At the beginning of November our day centre managers are mindful that many older people coming to our day centres, like Jane and Faye pictured, "wear their poppy with pride".  The majority of our clients will have personal memories of relatives who died or were injured in either world wars, so taking part in Remembrance Sunday and poppy-themed activities can bring comfort as well as mark the passing of another year.

Councillor Clubley and colleagues in Towcester.

On Tuesday 21st November we took our information stall to a Carers Event organised by Northamptonshire Carers and Martin of Aria Care at Brook House Care Home in Towcester.  We were pleased to speak to residents of the care home as well as people living independently in Towcester and surrounding villages, covering topics as diverse as toenail cutting, Lasting Power of Attorney and key safes.  Thank you to Cllr Maggie Clubley and her colleagues [pictured] for taking copies of our leaflets and magazine to help publicise the support we offer.

Second prize at the Festival of Angels in Higham Ferrers.

Staff and volunteers at our charity shop in Higham Ferrers have thrown their heart into constructing an angel for the Higham Ferrers Festival of Angels this year.  Their magnificent creation was put together using angels made from recycled materials which were donated by local supporters, and they won second prize!   Anne Milne and Emma Haynes [pictured above] were thrilled to be presented with a cheque for £75 from Russell Bates of the Alimak Group UK Ltd (who generously donated prize money for the winning angels as voted for by the visiting public) and Rev Louise Bishop of St Mary's Church.  First prize was won by Higham Ferrers Nursery and Infant School.
