Day Care Support Volunteers
We are looking for compassionate volunteers to support older people attending our Day Centres in Northampton and Towcester.
Our volunteers provide companionship, reassurance and practical support, helping to create a welcoming and enjoyable environment where people can socialise, participate in activities and feel valued.
By volunteering in one of our Day Centres, you can help older people feel connected, valued and supported while becoming part of a welcoming and dedicated team. Every conversation, smile, and act of kindness can make a lasting difference.
To join this rewarding service we ask that you are
• Aged 18 or over
• A caring and confident individual with empathy for older people
• Able to remain calm and provide reassurance when needed
• Aware of the importance of safeguarding and personal wellbeing
• Living locally and able to travel to one of our Day Centre locations
About the role
Full details of the volunteer role will be provided during the recruitment process. Please note that this is a voluntary, unpaid position and does not constitute a contract of employment.
What your day could include:
• Welcome and engage with clients as they arrive.
• Support the team with serving refreshments and lunches and help with clearing away afterwards.
• Encourage and assist clients with activities, either individually or in groups.
• Help set up and clear away activity materials and equipment.
• Spend time chatting with clients and providing companionship.
• Support the team by participating in or leading activities where appropriate.
• Promote a safe and inclusive environment for everyone attending the centre.
• Work alongside staff and fellow volunteers as part of a supportive team.
Your responsibilities:
• Maintain a smart, comfortable, and appropriate appearance.
• Treat clients, staff, students, volunteers, and visitors with courtesy, kindness, and respect.
• Maintain confidentiality at all times.
• Arrive promptly for your agreed volunteering sessions and provide as much notice as possible if you are unable to attend.
• Report any accidents, incidents, or concerns to the Service Manager or a member of the team.
• Report any safeguarding concerns immediately and follow agreed procedures.
• Refer general enquiries to a member of staff when appropriate.
• Remain friendly, patient, and professional at all times.
• Avoid giving advice outside the scope of your volunteer role.
Important safety information
The safety and wellbeing of clients, volunteers and staff is our highest priority.
• Volunteers must never attempt to lift or move a client.
• If a client falls, your role is to provide reassurance, keep them comfortable, and seek assistance from a member of staff immediately.
• Following this procedure helps protect both the client and you from injury.

Training and support
To undertake this role, you will be required to complete relevant training in line with our policies and procedures before you begin volunteering.
