First Response Volunteer
We are currently seeking two volunteers on a Wednesday 9.30am-3.30pm preferable, or 10am-2pm, based at The William and Patricia Venton Centre in Northampton.
Every day, people contact us looking for information, advice, reassurance and support. As a First Response Volunteer, you'll be one of the friendly voices helping people take that first important step towards getting the help they need.
Whether someone is looking for information about our services, support available in their local community, or simply someone to listen and point them in the right direction, you'll help ensure they receive a warm welcome and excellent service.
This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of older people across Northamptonshire while becoming part of a supportive and friendly team.
To join this rewarding service we ask that you are
- age 18 or over
- able to commit on a regular weekly basis for a minimum period of three months
- honest, reliable and friendly
What your day could include:
- Answer telephone calls and respond to enquiries.
- Welcome and support people who contact Age UK Northamptonshire.
- Provide information about our services, activities and support available.
- Signpost people to appropriate local organisations and community services.
- Help people access the information they need.
- Support the team with day-to-day administrative tasks.
- Listen with empathy and understanding to people who may be facing challenges.
- Work alongside staff and volunteers to deliver excellent customer service.
Your responsibilities:
- To ensure that your personal appearance is smart but comfortable.
- Be polite to clients, Team members and volunteers at all times.
- To maintain confidentiality at all times.
- To report any accidents sustained to the Service Manager / member of the Team.
- Arrive in good time for your shift.
- To undertake any necessary training as required for the role.
Some important points:
- Under no circumstances should you share your personal contact details.
- Do not discuss finances / confidential information of clients with anyone outside of the Charity.
- Confidentiality must be maintained at all times.
- If an accident occurs, please reassure individual and alert member of staff.
- Report any accidents, including those you may sustain, to a member of the Team.
- Report any safeguarding concerns to the Service Manager / member of the Team.
- Be polite, friendly and patient towards everyone.
- Do not give advice on matters other than those directly involved within your role.
