What is the Friendly Phone Calls programme?

The free Friendly Phone Calls programme is part of our Wellbeing Service.  It is for anyone aged over 60 in Somerset and North Somerset who may sometimes feel lonely, isolated, or a bit low, and who would appreciate having a telephone chat with a friendly volunteer every week.

When visits weren’t possible at the start of the pandemic we launched the Friendly Phone Calls programme so that older people would still get to hear a friendly voice and have someone to chat to over the phone.  This programme has become an invaluable lifeline for those living alone and new friendships have been formed.

Who is the Friendly Phone Calls programme for?

Anyone aged over 60 in Somerset and North Somerset who may sometimes feel lonely, isolated, or low, and would appreciate having a telephone call from a friendly volunteer.   Friendly Phone Calls provides an alternative to our Walk and Talk programme for those who have mobility or other issues making joining that programme unsuitable.   Priority will be given to those living alone.
