Bringing local older people together this Christmas

Christmas should be a time for connection, friendship and community. But for many older people, the festive season can also be a particularly lonely time of year.

Together at Christmas is a project from Age UK Wakefield District that brings local businesses, organisations and communities together to help tackle loneliness among older people.

We support businesses and organisations across the Wakefield District to host a Christmas get-together for local older people — creating a welcoming space where people can enjoy refreshments, meet others, share some festive cheer and, most importantly, feel connected.

We make it easy for you to get involved

You don't need to be an events expert to host a Together at Christmas gathering.

Age UK Wakefield District provides a ready-to-use event toolkit to help you plan and organise your get-together, making the process as simple and straightforward as possible.

A member of our charity team will also attend your event to provide practical support on the day, helping everything run smoothly and making sure you have the support you need.

Whether you're a local business, community group, workplace, school, faith organisation or another community organisation, we'd love you to be part of Together at Christmas.

Choose how you'd like to support

There are different ways you can get involved, depending on what works for your organisation.

🎄 £50 — Refreshments

Donate £50 to help provide refreshments for older people attending your Christmas get-together.

🎁 £100 — Refreshments & raffle prizes

Donate £100 to help provide refreshments and raffle prizes for attendees.

❤️ £150 — A little extra Christmas cheer

Donate £150 to help provide refreshments, raffle prizes and a Christmas gift for each attendee.

🤝 Make a contribution in your own way

There are lots of other ways you can support Together at Christmas. You could:

• Make a smaller donation to the project
• Encourage members of your team to volunteer at the event
• Donate raffle prizes
• Provide gifts or refreshments
• Help us spread the word
• Bring your customers, colleagues or community together to help reduce loneliness

For some older people, a Christmas get-together could be a rare opportunity to meet others, make new friends and enjoy a few hours of companionship.
