Dementia advice and resources

Noticing changes in your memory can feel worrying, but you’re not alone - and getting the right information early on can make a real difference. If you’re concerned about your memory, the first step is to speak to your GP. They’ll talk through what you’ve been experiencing, rule out other causes (like stress, low mood or physical health issues), and, if needed, refer you for a memory assessment.
A memory assessment usually involves a conversation about your symptoms, simple cognitive tests, and sometimes a scan or blood tests. The aim is to understand what’s happening and, if a diagnosis is needed, help you access the right support straight away. Many people find that getting answers — and practical strategies — helps them feel more confident and in control.
Barnet has a wide range of dementia services, community groups and practical support for residents at every stage. Whether you’re looking for information, activities, advice for carers, or ways to stay independent, there’s help available.
Below you’ll find useful resources to explore, including local services, specialist organisations, and practical tools for living well with memory changes.
