Welcome to our board of trustees who are the guiding hands of Age UK Barnet – they help set our direction, make key decisions, and ensure we are run responsibly and in line with our mission. We are always looking for new trustees - please see details in our Become a Trustee section here.

Lorraine Barnet - Chair

Lorraine Barnet Our Chair spent over 35 years in the commercial world before joining the board of AUKB.
Lorraine brings a wealth of experience in client, people and operations management.
Lorraine spends the majority of her time with the CEO and trustees overseeing the successful operation of the charity.
She is also particularly focussed on community engagement, helping to spread the word about the great work we do, and engaging with local businesses and people to raise awareness and vital funds.

Ruth Newrick

Ruth became an AUKB trustee in March 2021 after several years volunteering for the charity and seeing its critical impact. Currently the Deputy Director for Transformation at a large central government department, she has worked for many years in government delivering complex organisational change. Ruth is professionally qualified in project and programme management, including change, risk management, governance and reporting, and is a Chartered Member of CIPD. She balances her trustee and busy work responsibilities with attending and volunteering at her local Buddhist centre, rather slow jogging, and doing cryptic crosswords.

Alexis Ingram

Barnet GP Alexis Ingram has been a trustee since 2022 having got to know the organisation through working with AUKB to set up and run Social Prescribing for the borough of Barnet.
She was drawn to join AUKB’s board by the organisation’s ability to provide both large and small scale projects for the local community in a way that is professional, but with a family feel.
She brings with her knowledge of healthcare delivery along with experience of operational and strategic leadership.

Rachel Hanger

Rachel is a chartered accountant with over 30 years experience in the Financial Services sector both within industry and the accountancy professional services firms.
After retiring from KPMG Rachel has recently joined Age UK Barnet as a trustee after being impressed by the range of services and commitment of the team to the over 55 local community. She hopes her financial and business acumen will be positive for the charity.

Steve Carr

Steve has a background as an economist in central and local government, delivering housing, regeneration and economic development.  His early career was in anti-poverty campaigning.  He began volunteering during the pandemic - both at Finchley Foodbank and AgeUK Barnet, helping people with their shopping.  Having supported his father and mother with their care needs, he has personal insight into the vital importance of community and primary care services.  He was drawn to serve as a trustee by the energy and imagination of the AgeUK Barnet team.  Steve also dabbles in art and co-runs a flamenco club.

Paul Walsh

Paul’s background is in law, having specialised in the area of intellectual property and related European law becoming a widely recognised expert. During his career he became Managing Partner of a multi million pound law firm. He also taught law on the Oxford university Intellectual Property Law postgraduate diploma course. Since retiring he has volunteered as an Appropriate Adult charged with looking after detainee rights in police custody.

Kirit Amin

Kirit’s career has spanned technology, consulting and change management. He worked across software houses and consulting firms with financial and corporate clients, finding the work stimulating and well rewarded, though increasingly lacking a sense of intrinsic value.

Over the past 20 years, he has built extensive volunteering experience, including serving as a School Governor at The Henrietta Barnett School, a Trustee for Homestart Barnet, and a Governor at The Moss Hall Schools Federation. He now volunteers with Colindale Foodbank, supporting van driving, food collection, deliveries and client services.

He applied to be a Trustee at Age UK Barnet after several years caring for his mother and seeing first hand the vital support Age UK provides to older people, particularly those living with dementia.

Helen Newman is the Chief Executive and Company Secretary of Age UK Barnet.

Professor Catherine Loveday is our expert adviser and external member of our EDI team
