Val - Digital Inclusion

Published on 16 September 2023 03:26 PM

Val's journey learning to explore, learn and connect online

Val first approached Age Cymru Dyfed seeking assistance with her tablet, hoping to gain a better understanding of her digital capabilities. With the help of our dedicated Digital Champion, Haroun, Val's journey began to unfold, leading her to discover a world of possibilities beyond her initial expectations.

In our digital inclusion project, Val learned tablet essentials and delved deeper into features like Google Assistant, which helped her maximise her Internet use and find answers to queries. Val's confidence soared as she familiarised herself with the settings app, allowing her to personalise her tablet to her preferences. She ventured into the exciting realm of photo sketch apps, expressing her creativity in new and delightful ways.

With her newfound confidence, she fearlessly embarked on online shopping adventures, on platforms like Amazon, with ease and convenience.

Inspired by Val's progress and eagerness to explore further, we introduced her to our Smart Speaker Loan Scheme. Val embraced this opportunity and was provided with a Google Hub Mini. This addition to her digital toolkit brought even more convenience and joy to her life. With a simple voice command, Val could now access a wealth of information, entertainment, and assistance, all hands-free.

It became an invaluable companion, always ready to play her favourite music, provide updates on the weather, or even offer recipes as she embarked on her culinary adventures. The Smart Speaker Loan Scheme opened up a whole new dimension of convenience and accessibility, enriching her digital journey.

Val's story serves as an example of the impact digital support services can have on the lives of older individuals in our community. With the guidance of our dedicated Digital Champion, Val not only gained a better understanding of her tablet but also discovered a newfound confidence in using various digital tools and platforms. Her ability to navigate the digital landscape has transformed her daily life, empowering her to explore, learn, and connect in ways she never thought possible.
