Working in partnership with Age Friendly Island, the Tesco Extra store in Ryde opened a Time for You till in 2017 that promises shoppers the opportunity to shop at their own pace to meet their needs, with no pressure to rush.

Dementia Friendly Church Services

Dementia Friendly Church Services have been running on the Isle of Wight since 2014. Initially Age Friendly Island worked together with St. John the Baptist Church in Ryde to look at the best way to make church services more accessible to people living with dementia and to support the needs of older people.

Age Friendly Training – Southern Vectis

Age Friendly Island developed training to help service providers become more age-friendly. The Isle of Wight’s main bus operator, Southern Vectis, has incorporated this training into its compulsory programme for all drivers, using an age simulation suit and glasses to give participants an insight into common physical challenges in later life.

Celebrating Age Festival

Age Friendly Island co-ordinated four Celebrating Age Festivals between 2016-2019. The Festival grew each year and resulted in extending the diverse range of activities over the whole of October to enable people to try as many different events as possible. In 2019, over 47 organisations were involved delivering 100+ events for the over 50’s and over 1000 people attended.
