Beyond Age

Published on 14 June 2023 09:43 AM

Over the course of 12 weeks, a group of clients from Age UK Kensington and Chelsea took part in a series of workshops at the Saatchi Gallery based around Beyond the Streets. This exhibition showcased the undeniable impact of street art and graffiti across the world.

Through visiting the exhibition, the group were shown endless examples of how the craft has been used as a way of communication and self-expression throughout history, with references to punk and the birth of hip hop and street culture. Each week they explored sections of the exhibition in depth and took inspiration for their own creations.

The workshops provided the opportunity to experiment with the different techniques and mediums used by the artists featured in the exhibition. In the sessions members designed their own record covers, decorated hats, t-shirts and tote bags, experimented with different drawing and printmaking methods and created poems using found text.

Members were able to discover new means of self-expression and create works of art that were meaningful to them. This publication showcases just a selection from the vast array of incredible and varied work that was made by the group.

We would like to thank Florence and Karl at the Saatchi Gallery for leading a brilliant series of workshops and making this opportunity available to our members.
