We're keeping older people safe.

Here's a weekly rundown of our work to keep older people in Sheffield safe and well while they are shielded at home.

  • This week we've started our delivery of food parcels to people who have no other means of having groceries delivered. 108 bags have gone out this week. In this article, our new volunteer, Phil Ashford tells us why he has offered to help
  • We've also done urgent shops for 10 people who didn't have enough food in the house to last them for 24 hours and collected and delivered 7 urgent prescriptions
  • All this food is being provided free of charge, funded through our £50,000 fundraising appeal. I'm delighted to report that this week we have reached £34,000 in this appeal, partly thanks to an amazing £5,000 donation from Rainforest Foods. Please help us to reach our £50,000 target to help keep people fed over the coming months by visiting the Virgin Money Giving website and searching for Age UK Sheffield
  • Last week we reported our staff had started to telephone and risk-rate all 1,100 people who were are currently supporting. So far, we have now produced 500 personalised plans to keep people safe and well at home
  • We've called 83 people who regularly attend our dementia centre and cafes and delivered 19 activity packs to keep them engaged
  • Our volunteers have made 117 befriending phone calls to people living alone
