Published on 12 July 2018 12:33 PM

Come and join Age UK Wakefield District staff and Volunteers in this fabulous event

We are proud to be working with our local Park Run at Pontefract Race Course as part of our ongoing campaign to end loneliness and in the spirit of our goal as an organisation to be fit for 2020 and Pontefract Park Run have kindly offered to host a week to support us.  Our main event will take place on:

Saturday, 28 July 2018, 9.00am

at

Pontefract Park,
Pontefract
WF8 4RA

On this day we are able to have an “Age UK Wakefield District Take Over” this means we can have:

  • Information Stands
  • Banners and leaflets
  • Staff and volunteers to meet and greet the public

We would like as many people as possible to come along to volunteer, WALK or run.  Our team will be joining the wonderful volunteers at Park Run to raise awareness of this fantastic free community exercise event open to all ages and abilities.

Runners/Walkers  - can register first (If you want your results) it’s free to do and very simple, if you want to register your child too, they just use your email address.

Volunteers - can “man” the stand, handout leaflets, wear a Park Run volunteer vest to show runners the way and generally cheer them on or even act as the back walkers who walk behind everyone else to make sure no one is left behind.

Park Run

Not just for the young or the super fit, as Park Run has grown in popularity the average speed has gone DOWN! This is because more and more people are coming along to walk the courses while taking time to enjoy the morning and get to know other like minded people. Friendships are forged in the great outdoors that form connections to combat isolation and loneliness as well as encouraging all ages to get and stay active.

For those of you who are not aware of Park Run it’s a free to enter exercise group. Every Saturday at 9am people all over the world get together to run, jog, kip, dance, walk their way around a 5K course.

The average pace of Park Run has decreased over the years it has been going, as more and more people turn up to walk for exercise, it’s not a race it’s a coming together of friendly people of all ages and abilities.

At Pontefract Race course there is a bit of a path most of the way round so many people take Buggies and there are also people in wheelchairs although the pushing must get hard going at points!

If you would like more information on your local Park Run please see their website:
