Help for heating with the Warm Homes Programme

Wakefield residents are being urged to apply for funding that aims to help homeowners and private rented tenants to lower their fuel bills.

A total of £2.9m is available to help more than 700 households across Leeds City Region to keep their homes warm with a new central heating system.

The scheme is open to residents who do not have a central heating system already installed and find it hard to heat their home. People need to apply as soon as possible as the grants are available for a limited period only.

The Council is backing the scheme as part of its drive to help residents save energy and money and to reduce fuel poverty.

Part-funded by National Grid, the Leeds City Region Warm Homes programme is installing gas-fired central heating systems and gas connections in eligible privately-owned and privately-rented homes across the City Region.

Wakefield residents who own or privately rent their home can find out if they are eligible for support by calling Better Homes Yorkshire – the only council-backed home energy efficiency and heating provider in the Wakefield district – on 0800 597 1500.

If approved, householders will be offered new heating systems on a first-come, first-served basis. Qualifying owner occupiers will receive the system at no cost, while landlords with qualifying tenants will be offered heavily discounted systems.

Residents urged to apply for funding for home insulation scheme

The country may be enjoying one of the hottest summers on record but Wakefield Council is encouraging people to get ready for the winter months – by applying for funding for home insulation so that work can be carried out before the cold weather kicks in.

The BeWarm Wakefield scheme has grants available for qualifying households, to help them cover the costs of installing loft and cavity wall insulation.

People are being urged find out more about the scheme as soon as possible, as teams of specialist workers are on stand-by and are available over the summer to carry out the work.

The scheme is part of the Council's drive to help residents save energy and money, and reduce fuel poverty.

The insulation work will be delivered by the Council's approved Better Homes Yorkshire insulation partner, A&M Energy Solutions. BeWarm Wakefield is the only Council endorsed loft and cavity wall insulation scheme in the Wakefield district.

Eligibility for a full grant is dependent on personal circumstances and is subject to survey.
