Intergenerational Work

Our Intergenerational work with schools has been a key pillar in the Age Friendly Island project, and we have worked with children aged from 7 up to those in further education. Our Age Friendly school assemblies to raise awareness about the challenges older people face, were met with interest, curiosity and a keenness to make things better.

Niton & Whitwell Social Trips

50% of the population of the Parish of Niton and Whitwell in the south of the Isle of Wight is aged 50 and over. The parish has limited public transport, few shops and services and social isolation is a particular concern. After an audit of the physical and social environment by Age Friendly Island in partnership with the Parish, the recommendation for transport stated that the Parish Council should not only work with other stakeholders, but also offer a series of social trips to help combat social isolation.
