Staying Steady in Minehead

Published on 29 May 2018 11:33 AM

As we become older, we often become a bit more wobbly and less steady on our feet, increasing our risk of sustaining a fall.

This can lead to us becoming less active as we lose confidence in continuing the lifestyle that we enjoy. As we become less active, we lose more strength, resulting in us becoming more wobbly and each time we stumble or fall, the fear of us hurting ourselves increases so we move around even less.

However, Age UK Somerset is here to help you stop this cycle.

Older people can reduce their risk of falls dramatically by building their strength.

Age UK Somerset are starting some ‘Stay Strong, Stay Steady’ classes in Minehead at the Catholic Church, 10 Townsend Rd.

These classes are specifically tailored for older people, to build strength and improve balance, helping attendees to maintain independence for longer. Taking place every Wednesday at 10-11am, these relaxed and friendly sessions cost £4.00 each..

According to Age UK Somerset’s Ageing Well Manager, Dianne Ramsay, “these sessions are targeted specifically at fall prevention, and aim to help older people who are unsteady on their feet to improve balance and build confidence when walking and carrying out everyday tasks.”

If you would like more information, or to attend a session, in the first instance please contact Dianne Ramsay for an application form on 01823 345626 or email dianne.ramsay@ageuksomerset.org.uk
