Celebrating in The Ridings Shopping Centre, Wakefield

Sunday the 1st of October was International Older Persons Day and we celebrated by hosting a Silver Sunday event in The Ridings Shopping Centre.  Starting at 10am, our dedicated team of staff and volunteers served hundreds of free hot drinks, chatted with people and danced the day away with the live entertainment.

Wakeylele's came to perform, this group of 25 Ukelele players were a huge hit as the played and sung along to famous tunes.  Next came the choir from Singing for the Brain who support people with Dementia to sing and enjoy music.  Followed by a wonderful Duo who got everyone up on their feet and having fun.

Mt Twisty delighted passerby’s with his amazing balloon modelling with shapes such as dinosaurs, butterfly’s and even a fairy being made.

Partners from local organisations came along to speak to people about the support available and offer up advice on how to get through some of life’s challenges.

The Mayor of Wakefield spoke with people visiting the celebrations and those there to provide support, stopping to take a photograph with everyone who asked.

Our friends at Wakefield Trinity Disability team set up an area to demonstrate rugby skills and show how talented the wheelchair rugby and disability team are.

Thank you to everyone involved in making this such a special day!
