How it works
Carefully vetted volunteers are matched with an older person in Barnet who is having difficulty getting out to do their own shopping.
Once a week the volunteer will contact the client by phone to get their shopping list, do the shopping, and bring it to the client’s home. We would expect this to be around 15 items per week as some of our volunteers cycle or use public transport.
When needed, the volunteer can bring the shopping into the kitchen and help to put the shopping away. They may also be happy to do some other small errands such as posting a letter or collecting a prescription.
The client will need to reimburse the volunteer directly for the shopping, either by cash, cheque or bank transfer, immediately after the shopping is delivered.
We will need contact details for the client, and an emergency contact in case of unexpected situations.
Age UK Barnet will recruit and vet volunteers to support this service. If we are unable to recruit volunteers in particular geographical areas of the borough, we may not be able to offer a service to all who request it.
