Age UK Bury is holding a series of events to celebrate the end of lockdown and restrictions.

Let's Celebrate - Saturday 11th September 2021

Our first event is a community fun day on Saturday 11th September, from 11.00 to 4.00.

It’s been a tough time for everyone so we are holding a celebration of happiness and togetherness at the Jubilee Centre, by Clarence Park Lido. We will have entertainment, stalls, music, food, a bar, activities and fun for the whole family. Our friends from the Bury Model Boat Club will be displaying their magnificent boats.

We will be making more announcements on this page when activities are confirmed. Expect to see plenty of smiles and balloons! The day will feature a unique sponsored drum-a-thon by Duncan Lees.

Duncan’s Sponsored Drum-a-Thon

In September, Duncan Lees, a drummer from the 1960's, is embarking on a five-hour Drum-A-Thon to raise funds to support older people’s services.

Duncan began drumming as a young soldier during his National Service, following which he formed a band called “The Talismen” in the early 1960’s and played the clubs and pubs in the North-East, appearing with a number of bands, including Clockwork Orange, until work took him to London and silenced his drums for the next 55 years.

At the young age of 83, Duncan returned to his love of drums at the start of the pandemic to keep himself fit. Despite being arthritic in every joint, diabetic and with a knee replacement, Duncan has been practicing daily, much to the delight of his neighbours!.

Duncan was inspired by Sir Tom’s “100 challenge” and with his Doctor’s permission, he is planning to drum his way through 100 tunes to raise awareness and funds for his favourite charities.

Duncan will provide non-stop, nostalgic enjoyment at the Jubilee Centre, Mosley Avenue, Bury, BL9 6NJ on Saturday 11th September from 11.00. This will be part of the Age UK Bury’s celebrations marking the end of lockdown and there will be stalls, café, bar and attractions for all the family.

All funds raised from Duncan’s Drum-A-Thon will be split evenly between Age UK, Age UK Bury and Bury Lions Club.
