I hope you and your loved ones are well. Happy October! Amazing how the year is flying by.
As I write this, our wonderful volunteers are getting ready for tonight’s Party Night at the Jubilee Centre. There will be delicious food and the best music to party too. It’s going to be a lot of fun. Tickets will be available on the door at £10 per ticket.
Coronavirus in Bury
As of Thursday 30th September, 254.8 people per 100,000 tested positive for coronavirus over the last 7 days – that is an increase of 2% from the previous week. On the same day, the England average was 336.9 people testing positive per 100,000 over the last seven days– an increase of 21% from the previous week’s figure.
If you are feeling unwell, please help us to stay open by not coming to the Jubilee Centre or our shops. We are asking everyone to use the sanitiser provided and be considerate in giving each other space.
Free Home Energy Checks
We are offering free home energy checks. These checks help make homes more energy efficient and warmer in the winter by having an assessment with advisors to ensure you are with the right energy provider and tariff. Our advisors will discuss energy saving equipment with you and if suitable, these will be installed by our handyperson free of charge. We are offering equipment up to the value of £30.

Coming Up at the Jubilee - Dates for your Diary
Our Winter Wonderland returns on Saturday 20th December. More details to follow.
The Radcliffe Male Voice Choir will hold their annual concert on Saturday 4th December. The concert will start at 2.00 pm and more details will be out soon.
Christmas Meals at the Jubilee Centre
Normally, at this time of the year, we start taking orders for Christmas Lunches in December. We have decided to delay making any decision about Lunches, until we can be certain we can offer this.
The Coronavirus means at any point, some or all of the Café staff may have to go into self-isolation, which could close down the café at a moment’s notice. The shortage of poultry workers means that there could be no turkeys to buy and the lack of HGV lorry drivers could mean there is no one to deliver them. Indeed, if the petrol crisis is not sorted out, then people might not be able to get to the centre. All of these things make it a nightmare to plan anything with any certainty.
With everything so unclear, we would feel bad about taking people’s money. We will review this regularly and look at alternative ways we can celebrate Christmas together. Ideas are welcome!

Future of this newsletter
This newsletter was set up in response to the coronavirus pandemic to help us keep in contact with you. Your response has been amazing, and we now have over 500 regular readers. I am grateful to all those who emailed me with their positive comments.
Now that the Jubilee Centre has almost returned to normal, time is limited and so we will reduce the number of newsletters to two per month. We will aim to get a newsletter to you on 2nd and 4th Friday of every month. So you should get a newsletter on 8th October and then 22nd October.
If there is anyone who would like to take over the role of Quizmaster, please get in touch. This would mean selecting 30 or so questions and answers twice a month and emailing them to me. It makes for an interesting job in which you will learn loads. Email me at news@ageukbury.org.uk
Getting to medical appointments
Do you or the person you care for have a medical appointment, but cannot get there because of Fuel shortages or otherwise?

The Weekly Quiz
The answers to last week’s Quiz (dated 24th September) is in the link. The Quizmaster was looking forward to seeing his favourite band when he prepared the quiz, so some of the questions might have the same answer.
This week’s Quiz brings you another 30 questions to test your knowledge and the some of the questions are quite topical. This quiz is just for you and your friends to enjoy. The right answers will be sent out with next week’s newsletter.
