We hope you are keeping dry during the summer showers. Last week, we were sweltering in the heat of sun, but things have got back to normal! In this week’s newsletter, we include an appeal for your loose change and announce the winners of this month’s 100 club but first we start with an update about the Fuel Rebates.

Fuel Rebate

The Council Tax Energy Bills Rebate is intended to help households with rising energy costs. So far, Bury Council has distributed over £10 million pounds to over 67 thousand households in Bury.

Those who pay their council tax by direct debit should have received their payment of £150 in their bank account by now.

If do not pay your Council Tax by Direct Debit or you have no Council Tax to pay because you receive Council Tax Support or receive a Council Tax exemption, you will be issued with a voucher of £150 which you can cash in at the Post Office. The vouchers are being issued in batches and they should all have been received by 8th July 2022.

For full details go to: https://www.bury.gov.uk/energybillsrebate

The Chancellor has announced a raft of measures to help people with rising energy prices. For a guide on what to expect, go to https://www.ageuk.org.uk/information-advice/money-legal/debt-savings/energy/changes-to-energy-prices/

Most help will go to people who receive Pension Credit. If you are not receiving this entitlement and want to know more, go to https://www.ageuk.org.uk/information-advice/money-legal/benefits-entitlements/pension-credit/

Alternatively, ask for a booklet at the Jubilee Centre reception or call 0161 763 9030 and one of our Information and Advice Staff, Louise or Ruth, will call you back to ensure you are receiving everything you are entitled to.

Appeal for your old coins!

We have a new way for people to donate to Age UK Bury. We can now collect your old British and foreign currency. You can donate those old £1 coins, shillings, farthings and thruppenny bits, as well those left-over holiday spends you will just never get rid of.

We have donation points at our Jubilee Centre and both our charity shops. We can accept coins or notes.

Every mark, drachma, lira, escudo and peseta will support our services in the borough of Bury. Thank you.

Men’s Keep Fit

For next week only, the Men’s Keep Fit will not be held on Thursday 7th July but will be on Friday 8th July. 9.30 at the Jubilee Centre.

Reclaim Your Life

Due to low uptake, we are postponing the Reclaim Your Life Course. We will repeat the Living Your Life to the Full course soon.  More details soon.
