This Saturday: Our Christmas Concert

This Saturday afternoon (3rd December), there will be a Christmas Concert led by the excellent Radcliffe Male Voice Choir. It is the perfect start to our Christmas at the Jubilee.

It starts at 2.00 pm and doors open at 1.30 pm. Tickets will be on sale on the door at £10.00 and includes refreshments at the interval.

Christmas Dinner Week at the Jubilee Café

The conservatory café at the Jubilee Centre will be closed to the public from Monday 5th to Thursday 8th December as we are holding our Christmas Dinners for our members.

The main café will only be serving soup, sandwiches and refreshments.

Normal service will resume on Friday 9th December.

From Buckingham Palace to the Jubilee Centre

A Special Event at the Jubilee Centre on Wednesday 14th December at 11.00 am

To mark the Queen’s historic Platinum Jubilee, a sculpture called the “Tree of Trees' was erected outside Buckingham Palace. The 70-foot-high sculpture consisted of 80 steel “branches” holding 350 trees in aluminium pots, bearing the Queen's cypher.

Created by British designer Thomas Heatherwick, the sculpture marked the planting of more than a million Jubilee trees as part of the Queen’s Green Canopy (QGC) initiative to mark 70 years of the monarch’s reign. The designer said: “This sculpture acts like a beacon sending one simple, eternal message that trees are the superheroes of our towns and cities and matter much more to our lives than we realise.” He added “The Queen approved the plans. She gave a big thumbs-up.”

Once the Jubilee Celebrations ended, Buckingham Palace announced that the 350 trees would be gifted to organisations and community groups across the United Kingdom. Age UK Bury was nominated to receive a young Rowan tree which now sits next to the Jubilee Centre, opposite the beautiful Clarence Park Lido. The tree was planted by Mike and Ben from Crown Oil.

To begin the event, our new Community Choir, which started in September, will sing a few songs to showcase their weekly activity, celebrating song and music at the Centre. At 11.30, we will move to the tree which is next to the Jubilee Centre and say a few words about its history.

The Mayor of Bury, Councillor Shaheena Haroon, and the Deputy Lieutenant of Greater Manchester, Karan Lee, will be our guests of honour.

All are welcome to join us.
