Age UK Barnet continues to deliver Household Support Fund

Published on 27 June 2025 06:38 AM

We’re pleased to announce that Age UK Barnet will continue to distribute the Household Support Fund – much needed one-off grants – to Barnet residents over 55 who are facing financial hardship.

Over the past year the Age UK Barnet team has given out £682,610 of grants and helped over 638 older Barnet residents.

‘It’s great news is that scheme has been extended for another year,’ says services manager Jenny Jean-Charles. ‘These grants have been life-changing for some older people, many of whom were overwhelmed with anxiety due to money difficulties.’

Some 58 per cent of grants helped people with energy and water bills and – also energy related -  nearly 20 per cent was given out to replace broken and inefficient cookers, washing machines and fridge freezers.

The Household Support fund is there to support Barnet residents over 55 with one-off grants to help with utility bills, food costs, and other essential costs.

‘We’ve received touching letters of thanks from grateful recipients who we’ve helped get back on their feet again,’ says Jenny, ‘and we hope to help many more older people in the coming year.’

The Household Support Fund cannot be awarded to people who live outside of Barnet, live in residential and/or permanent care, are in prison, or who have received a grant in the past 12 months.

If you or someone you know needs support with essential living costs, please call Age UK Barnet on 0208 203 5040 and ask for the Household Support team or email support@ageukbarnet.org.uk

The Household Support Fund is being distributed by Age UK Barnet on behalf of Barnet Council.
