A big cheer for Team Age UK Barnet

Thanks to our fantastic running duo who took part in the Royal Parks Half Marathon in London on Sunday 13 October.

Ed and Fred both had a brilliant race, finishing in 2:01 and 1:55 respectively. They are both raising money to help Age UK Barnet provide essential services and activities to older people in the borough and there's still time to sponsor them (see below).

Fred’s mum Helen is chief officer of Age UK Barnet he so really understands the challenges of running a small charity and how the services and activities that we offer make such a difference to the lives of older people in the borough.

He ran for team Age UK Barnet in the Royal Parks Half last year. ‘I’d just come out of uni where I didn't really do much exercise for three years, so it was a great reason to start getting fit again,’ he says.

Despite the weather – with high winds and rain for some of the race – he finished with a great time – 1.53 hours.

‘I really enjoyed last year’s race and was keen to do it again,’ he says. This time round, training is easier and he’s looking forward to the day. He’s aiming to beat last year’s time, but his main motivator is to raise money for a charity he feels strongly about.

Ed Davis

Ed is friends with Fred and has recently finished studying his sports and exercise science degree at Coventry Uni.

‘Fred ask me whether I’d take part in the Royal Parks with him this year and I didn’t hesitate to say yes. After watching him enjoy it so much from afar last year and since hearing about all the work Age UK Barnet does in the Barnet community, it seemed like a no brainer to get involved and do something positive for a good cause.’

Although fit – he plays football three or four times a week – he has limited experience of running this kind of distance:  ‘This will be my first half-marathon of any kind, so I guess my concerns lie in the unknown. However, having previously represented my schools and uni in sport, I’m hoping my competitive background will be enough to get me over the line.’

Ed is looking forward to an exciting day out and enjoying the process of staying fit whilst raising money for an important charity.
