Age UK Barnet is helping Barnet Council provide the Crisis and Resilience Fund (CRF). This scheme helps older Barnet Residents build long-term financial stability and provide short-term relief to those facing immediate financial crises.
Please kindly note that this scheme is currently provisional and may be subject to changes in the future.
Crisis payments
Households who are facing an immediate financial emergency will also be able to apply for a one-time Crisis Payment to provide short-term relief.
Applications will be assessed on a case-by-case basis. Successful applicants will be those facing a sudden, unexpected expense or drop in income, such as the result of:
1. A natural disaster or fire
2. Redundance or a reduction in working hours
3. An accident or health emergency
4. Breakage of essential heating or cooking appliances
5. Leaving an abusive relationship
Those experiencing persistent low-income without an immediate financial shock will be supported by our advice services instead.
In addition to this, to be eligible applicants must:
1. Have a low household income
2. Have household savings/investments/capital lower than £2,000
3. Be unable to access other relevant sources of funding (e.g. Utility provider grants to clear arrears, CRF Housing Payments from Barnet Council)
4. Have not received a Crisis Payment or Household Support Fund award previously for the same purpose and without a significant change in circumstances
5. Have the legal right to access UK Public Funds
Please note that these criteria are different to previous grant schemes we have run, such as the Household Support Fund. The CRF is a new scheme with different goals, and criteria have changed accordingly.
Resilience support
All Barnet residents aged 55+ accessing the scheme will be offered support from our Information and Advice team, with the goal of preventing and managing the impact of financial crises in the long-term.
This may include:
- Income maximisation and benefits advice
- Accessing social care and home adaptations
- Accessing housing support and advice
- Accessing debt advice and/or legal advice
- Accessing employment support services
- Accessing food banks
- Accessing up-skill educational courses – including English courses for non-English speakers and adult courses
