Age Cymru Dyfed Supports Visit to 101 Year Old World War Two Veteran

Age Cymru Dyfed's Veterans Team was honoured to help facilitate a special visit to Bruce McCay, a World War Two veteran from Wales, who recently celebrated his 101st birthday.

On Tuesday 21 July 2026, Veterans Officer Neil Davies welcomed representatives from UK veterans' heritage organisation The Last of The Greats to Bruce's home, where he shared memories of his service with the 7th Battalion, Royal Welch Fusiliers during the Second World War.

As part of the visit, Bruce became the 58th veteran to sign The Last of The Greats' World War Two Union Flag, proudly adding "7 RWF" alongside his signature in tribute to his regiment.

Following the visit, Bruce's partner, Di Hendrick, contacted Age Cymru Dyfed to express her thanks, saying the visit had "made an old man very happy."

Neil Davies said:

"Di's message was a lovely endorsement, and I'm very proud that Age Cymru Dyfed is able to support our Armed Forces veterans. Bruce was wounded in action, and we mustn't forget the price men like Bruce paid for the freedoms we enjoy today."

Bruce's story has been preserved as part of the West Wales Veterans Archive on People's Collection Wales, ensuring his experiences will continue to educate and inspire future generations.
