From what our Dementia Wellbeing Connector Jude enjoys about her role, to the difference she feels she is making, plus the rewarding parts and challenges. A short interview on a day in the life of an Age Cymru Dyfed Dementia Wellbeing Connector.

What do you love about your role?

I love visiting people after their diagnosis with dementia, because it's so important that people have someone to talk to. So just getting to know people and finding out what their needs and wants are and then putting services in place for them or signposting them in the right direction is what I enjoy most about this role.

What difference is the connector role making for people living with dementia?

I think it is so important...there are a lot more services out there now, yet there is still a lot of stigma around it. Providing people like us, dementia wellbeing connectors, are a friendly face, going into someones home, getting to know them, reassures people.

What is the most rewarding part of the role?

When we manage to find solutions that helps them to feel more included in their community or even feel safer in their own homes. For example a client, having hallucinations, we suggested they cover up reflective surfaces in the place where it occurred and instantly the anxiety was eased just through having that little bit of knowledge to share there.

What challenges do you face day to day?

The stigma of dementia is really real especially for the older generation still. Trying to get to almost have that conversation with them before they shut down, before they hear the word dementia. A challenge is making enough time for people to build a relationship, so as to get them past that stigma and let them know everything will be ok, they don't have to be going through this alone.

Video of full interview is going live from 7 July 2026 on this page.
