We’re proud to announce that Age Cymru Dyfed has been awarded Silver in Employer of the Year category at the Welsh Veterans Awards 2026 on 8 July.

We're honoured to receive this recognition and remain committed to supporting veterans in our communities. The award recognises our commitment to supporting veterans and reflects the dedication of our staff and volunteers in helping the armed forces community across West Wales.

The Welsh Veterans Awards, held in support of the Army Benevolent Fund and the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity, celebrates the achievements of veterans, employers and organisations from across Wales. Congratulations to all involved!

Speaking on the event sponsored by Sierra Nevada Mission Systems UK, Jim Glass Veteran’s Officer at Age Cymru Dyfed said:

"Our Veterans Team at Age Cymru Dyfed is immensely proud to have been nominated and selected as finalists at the Welsh Veterans Awards, and this Silver Award is a wonderful recognition of the hard work carried out every day to improve the veteran experience.

“As a Veteran, I'm privileged to be working, assisting Veterans since 2021 across several organisations. It is vital that those individuals who have served their country, either as volunteers or as part of National Service, get the assistance needed. At Age Cymru Dyfed, it is our honour to ensure that older Veterans who may not be internet literate get the same opportunities as their younger comrades.

“We strive to ensure older Veterans have better futures, whether through our free eLearning module for frontline services or our Heritage Lottery Fund project recording stories of Welsh National Servicemen. Recording their stories means their personal history always has a voice. “

The awards evening was attended by senior military representatives, Veterans' Commissioner for Wales, members of the Royal Welsh, Welsh Guards and Royal Navy and shortlisted organisations, including Gareth Pennell, who received the Lifetime Achievement Award, and Steve Owen, recognised as Role Model of the Year, Military Charity Fundraiser of the Year and Welsh Veterans Awards Champion.

About the Veterans Project at Age Cymru Dyfed

Age Cymru Dyfed is committed to improving the lives of older veterans across Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, and Pembrokeshire.

Our Building Stronger Futures for Older Veterans project has developed a free e-learning module to help frontline professionals, including the NHS, local authorities, third sector organisations and universities, better understand and support veterans in their communities. The course is also available through the Armed Forces Covenant Health Alliance website for NHS trusts across England.

Alongside this, our National Lottery Heritage Fund project is preserving the stories of Welsh National Servicemen who served between 1946 and 1963. Their experiences are being recorded and archived with the National Library of Wales, ensuring their personal histories are preserved for future generations. The project also includes educational resources to help today's students learn about the experiences of post-war National Service. Together, these projects help ensure older veterans receive the recognition, support and legacy they deserve.
