Time and Day Required: 1-3 hours per visit (hours depend on appointment) 

Minimum number of hours per week: will vary depending on requests received.  Volunteer can undertake minimum or maximum number of visits to suit.

Minimum length of commitment we hope for: 4-6 months

Report to: Volunteer Manager 

Role Overview: To accompany an older person resident in Hammersmith & Fulham to a GP/Dental/ Hospital/Ophthalmic appointment.  This might entail going on a bus/walking locally or taking a taxi with the client, staying for the duration of the appointment and accompanying the back home. 

Key Task Descriptions:

  • Listening to client’s requirements for journey and appointment.

  • Undertaking small tasks according to the appointment – e.g. getting a drink if long wait at hospital, opening doors if mobility issues, putting on seat belt in taxi, assisting onto bus, generally just checking all OK. 

  • Informing Volunteer Coordinator at end of appointment all complete

Experience Required:

Knowledge and understanding of older people and the issues affecting them.

All volunteers are DBS checked as they will be volunteering with Vulnerable Adults and this is part of our Safeguarding Policy & Procedure.

Mandatory Training & Development: Induction

Volunteer Support:

Induction and volunteer get-togethers.

Travel expenses to/from client reimbursed.
A full time Volunteer Coordinator available when information or support is required.
