Veterans' Voices Take Centre Stage

It has been a standout period for our veterans work, with both recognition for our learning programme and a memorable celebration of Welsh National Service veterans coming together in Aberystwyth.
Our Building Stronger Futures for Older Veterans eLearning course has received strong praise from the Chief Executive of the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust. Following a recent presentation, this feedback captured the spirit behind the work:
“I just wanted to drop you a line to thank you for an excellent presentation yesterday. Your passion for your project is absolutely wonderful and has no doubt helped you to overcome some of the bigger hurdles. We could not be prouder of all that you have achieved.”
It’s a reflection of the energy, commitment and purpose driving the project forward.
Meanwhile, team members Neil and Hugh have been leading the Heritage Lottery-funded Welsh National Service Veterans Project, which reached a real highlight with its first-year culmination event at the National Library in Aberystwyth.

The event was opened by the Chairman of the Board of Governors, Peter Hamilton, and featured contributions from the Lord Lieutenant of Dyfed, Sara Edwards, along with senior military officers Colonel Sion Walker of the British Army and Wing Commander Rob Woods of the Royal Air Force.

But the real centrepiece of the day was the veterans themselves. They took the spotlight to share their service experiences in their own words, bringing humour, honesty and powerful reflection to the room. The event was warmly attended by veterans alongside their families and friends, creating a real sense of connection and shared pride throughout the day.
A strong finish to the first year of the project, and a reminder of just how important it is to keep these stories alive, heard and celebrated.
