Aims and goals

The Handyperson Service enables older people to carry on living independently in their own home.  As a Handyperson Volunteer you are an important part of ensuring that older people are able to stay at home for longer and are safe.

We are sure that you will enjoy volunteering with us, and that you will always feel supported and safe.

All we ask is that you are:

  • age 18 or over
  • able to commit on a regular weekly basis
  • honest, reliable and friendly
  • a practical, hands-on person who can trusted to not put themselves or the clients at risk

This role description no way implies or states that a contract of employment is or will be offered. This is a voluntary unpaid role and is subject to Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check.

Tasks you may be asked to perform

  • collecting materials for the task
  • changing electric plugs
  • improving safety in the home
  • improving home security (such as fitting window locks)
  • putting up shelves and moving furniture within the home
  • minor home repairs and minor decorating tasks
  • putting up and taking down curtains and rails
  • fitting and testing smoke alarms

Please remember that we make a charge for the Handyperson Service.  Also, you will not be expected to provide personal care.

Volunteer Gail says "You don't feel it's anything amazing, but you put up a handrail and it makes a big difference to someone's life.  Now they can get in and out of their front door.  It's very satisfying."
