Age Friendly Champion
Role Description
Purpose of the role: To assist Age UK Barnet to develop Age Friendly status as a Borough, aiming to reduce the barriers to ageing well by making changes to the physical and social environment in Barnet.
What a volunteer might do:
· Share local knowledge, experience, and insights in order to improve the wellbeing of older adults in Barnet.
· Assist with and attend age-friendly events around the borough to promote the aims of the project including anti-ageism and minimising stigma associated with aging. These include:
· Intergenerational Projects with schools
· Engagement with residents living in Sheltered Housing Schemes
· Ad-hoc events including age-friendly planning for new developments sich as Brent Cross Town
· Engagement with current groups across the borough to improve access more widely
· Help to create and sustain links between Dementia Friendly and Age Friendly Barnet
· Attend Age Friendly Champions meetings to feedback project activity and familiarise with wider aspects of the programme
· Influence recommendations and improvements to ensure Barnet is an Age Friendly borough to live and age well in.
