Chief Executive leaves Charity

Age Scotland's Chief Executive, Mr. David Manion, has left the Charity's employ to pursue new opportunities.
Mr. Manion served as the CEO of Age Scotland for 3 years and, prior to that, for 4 years in a similar capacity with one of our predecessor organisations, Age Concern Scotland.
On arrival at Age Concern Scotland in 2005, he oversaw a major restructuring that switched the Charity's fieldwork focus from the sporadic provision of specific services to comprehensive support for older people's groups across the country, simultaneously consolidating its financial position and considerably strengthening its reserves.
Upon agreement to merge the UK's four national Age Concerns with Help the Aged, Mr. Manion was heavily involved in the complex process in Scotland of bringing together two organisations with very different histories and cultures and negotiating new business arrangements with our partners in England, Northern Ireland and Wales.
During his tenure, the Age Scotland Helpline was established and expanded, the number of members saw a significant increase (up 26% in 2010/11 and a further 22% in 2011/2012 to a current 725) and a chain of retail outlets was acquired and developed to now encompass 14 shops.
Mr. Manion, in his capacity as a member of its board, furthermore contributed to the ongoing success of our social enterprise, Age Scotland Enterprises, which provides financial services specifically tailored to the needs of those in and approaching later life.
Mr Manion raised the charity's profile significantly and made a major contribution towards achieving landmark initiatives for Scotland's older people including the Strategy for an Ageing Population, the Adult Support & Protection (Scotland) Act and an Older People's Assembly.
