Each winter, one older person dies every seven minutes from the cold weather. Many of these deaths could be prevented if everyone lived in a warm home.

Last winter around 6,000 older people died from the cold weather in the North West

The Government's flagship energy efficiency programmes, the Energy Company Obligation (ECO) and the now closed Green Deal, have not gone nearly far enough to help older people in Lancashire keep warm in their homes.

That's why Age UK Lancashire is calling on the Government to reform its energy efficiency programmes to enable all older people to live in a warm home.

Such an approach would not only improve older people's health and wellbeing and save lives; it would also bring down consumer bills and lift hundreds of thousands out of fuel poverty.
