Care Home Volunteer Engagement project

This Welsh Government funded project aims to make a difference to the lives of people living in care homes.

The role involves:

  • Having meaningful conversations with care home residents on many topics including their life history, hobbies, and interests
  • Supporting activities in the care home, this might include music, art, craft, light exercise, family events and more
  • Support may include helping with a care home project under the guidance of an artist practitioner. The project is based on the ideas of the people living in, working in, and visiting the care home.

You will not be asked to help with personal care for residents.

Where could I volunteer?

We’re currently working with these regions in Wales, but we’ll try to assist and find a local care home if you’d like to volunteer and live in other parts of Wales:

  • Anglesey – Glan Rhos
  • Blaenau Gwent
  • Cardiff
  • Gwynedd
  • Neath Port Talbot – Llys y Seren, Plas Bryn Rhosyn
  • Newport
  • Pembrokeshire
  • Rhondda Cynon Taff
  • Swansea
  • Wrexham

Volunteering time is flexible and as much or little as you can offer depending on availability.

We would appreciate a minimum of six months participation as a volunteer to benefit both yourself and the care home. You can, of course, continue to volunteer as long as you wish.

Age Cymru provides full training and ongoing support.

Please email us to apply for this opportunity or telephone 029 2043 1555 for an informal chat with the Volunteer Team.
