Older people 'not consulted on services'

Published on 03 October 2013 08:30 AM

Commenting on a report published today by the RVS which shows 75% of older people in Wales feel that they are not consulted about services that impact their lives, Age Cymru's Head of Policy & Public Affairs, Graeme Francis says:

"The population of Wales is ageing more rapidly than that of anywhere else in the UK and we need to improve how we address the needs of our ageing population.

"Developments such as the Welsh Government's Strategy for Older People are evidence that things are moving the right direction, but we need a holistic approach to making services and policies right for older people.

"This report's finding that 75% of older people in Wales say they are rarely or never consulted on services that impact their lives shows that there is still a lot of work left to do.

"Older people make an enormous contribution to society and they must be given a voice in society and be able to control the issues that affect them in their day-to-day lives".
