Response to Lord Warner on the care sector

Published on 15 February 2011 05:00 PM

In response to Lord Warner's comments on the state of the Care sector, Andrew Harrop, Director of Policy and Public Affairs at Age UK, said:

'Care at the end of life is an essential service, just like the NHS. It's right that taxpayers of all ages should make a contribution to the costs. There may also be a case for using housing wealth to top-up what the taxpayer can afford, but only as part of a system which eliminates today's lottery, where some people die before they need to spend a penny on care while others pay a hundred thousand pounds or more.'
