Age UK’s Silver Sunday is a national day where communities come together by hosting fun and free activities for older people. Simply put, it’s a day for older people to have something special to look forward to and enjoy themselves. This year, Silver Sunday is on Sunday 5 October.

Silver Sunday events are a great way to meet people, have fun and try some new activities - from tea dances to history tours. Events take place all over the UK, on and around Sunday 5 October 2025.

In 2024 there were more than 1,300 events across the UK, organised by wonderful local groups, businesses and volunteers. If you’re interested in hosting an event this year, we’d love you to get involved!

Are Silver Sunday events free?

Most of our events are free – as a way of giving back to older people. However, sometimes organisers might ask for a small donation to cover running costs.

It's completely up to you what kind of event you put on. Whether it's group sing-a-long or a local history chat, as long as it's friendly and accessible to your local community then your guests will have a great time.

Do events have to take place on 5 October?

No, events can take place any time around this date. While Age UK’s Silver Sunday takes place on Sunday 5 October, we understand that might not work for everyone. What matters most is that there are lots of great events for older people around the UK, not what day they’re held on.
