Meet Fred

Fred's story highlights the challenges experienced by the older people in our communities

Fred's story symbolises the many experiences of the 1.2 million older people across the UK who often feel lonely. Age UK is determined to be there to provide support.

The chances are there is someone like Fred in your community. Perhaps it's the neighbour who goes unnoticed behind closed doors, yearning for someone to speak to, or the older person you see struggling in the cold with the weekly shopping they can't really afford.

Maybe it's someone who's always been alone, but who has felt increasingly isolated and unable to cope in recent years. Perhaps it's someone who shared their whole life with a special loved one, whose empty chair is a constant reminder they're no longer there.

But lonely and isolated older people shouldn't have to feel the world has forgotten them.

Many vulnerable older people will rely on the support of Age UK this Christmas. We'll be there to offer crucial information, friendship and advice.
