Age UK statement on housing

Published on 21 January 2011 12:30 AM

Michelle Mitchell, Charity Director at Age UK, said:

'Whether people decide to stay in their home or down size to a smaller property, it is vital that they do not feel under pressure to move and have access to all relevant information to help them and their family make an informed decision.

'When moving, considerations need to go beyond simply thinking about bricks and mortar and focus on the broader needs of later life, such as the community and support network around us. For many people, for example, it is important to be close to friends and family, the GP or a local day centre. All of these things need to be considered without duress before any decision to move home is made.'
