Age UK & CSA respond to LGA: GOVERNMENT MUST MAKE CASE FOR INCREASES IN NATIONAL TAXATION TO RESCUE ADULT SOCIAL CARE

Caroline Abrahams, Charity Director at Age UK and co-Chair of the Care and Support Alliance (CSA) said:
“The LGA’s Green Paper responses reflect what the Care and Support Alliance and individual charities have also heard from care users and the general public: a chorus of calls for a State backed funding mechanism to drive lasting improvement and reform. It’s time for the Government to stop putting its fingers in its ears and listen. If the much delayed Green Paper doesn’t contain as one of its options for consultation a rise in National Insurance or Income Tax to increase care funding it will be flying in the face of this and many other similar exercises - as well as passing up a historic opportunity to put social care for all who need it on the path to a sustainable future.”
