The Silver Line Helpline run by Age UK is a free, confidential telephone service for older people. We provide friendship, conversation and support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

What is the Silver Line? 

As we get older, we may find we spend more time on our own. This can sometimes feel lonely, boring or make us miss friends or family.

Age UK's Silver Line Helpline gives anyone aged 55 or over the opportunity to exchange a friendly word, access support, or enjoy a long enriching conversation.

The Silver Line Helpline, a 24-hour service. Our charity, The Silver Line, is a free confidential telephone service just for older people. We provide people with friendship, conversation and support 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

How we help 

Who can use the service? 

To use our confidential helpline, The Silver Line, where you can talk to someone at any time, you need to: 

  • be over 55
  • call 0800 4 70 80 90 on any phone 

Whether it's for a quick 'good morning' or a longer chat, The Silver Line is available 24/7, every day of the year.
