Stepping out is a basic foot care scheme delivered by Age UK Dudley working in partnership with NHS Dudley.
To offer a flexible service, through our trained staff and volunteers, to older people who are unable to do their own foot care.
How does stepping out work?
If you are 60+, living in the Dudley Borough and are not eligible for the NHS Podiatry Service. We can provide you with toe nail cutting and filing of hard skin. Any person who joins this scheme will be subject to an assessment by an NHS Podiatrist before any treatment is given. This is to establish that you are suitable for this service.
How do I join the scheme?
Stepping out is available on referral by an NHS podiatrist. Once we have received your referral you will be contacted by letter with details on arranging an appointment.
You do not pay for a podiatry assessment. Once you have been advised you qualify for this service, we ask that you purchase your own personal nail care kit which will be available from us.
There is also a charge for each foot care treatment you receive thereafter. This charge will be payable upon receipt of the service, and includes any cost of the materials used. The appointments given will be on a 8-12 weekly basis depending on your individual need.
Your personal nail care kit
The nail care kit consists of a toe nail nipper and diamond deb file, it’s supplied in a clear wallet and is kept in your possession. It must be brought to each session, to enable us to do your treatment. At the end of your treatment it will be cleaned and returned to you along with your next appointment.
What training do our volunteers have?
Our volunteers are specially recruited, trained and supervised in foot care by scheme coordinator and the Stepping Out staff team.
Where are the clinics held?
Clinics are held in the Dudley Borough, Brierley Hill being our main clinc with outreach clincs in Sedgley and Halesowen fortnightly. When you are offered your first appointment we will ask you the best place for you to attend.
