Transport to Hospital
Non-emergency transport to hospital is requested by telephoning the service on 0300 999 6666.

Older drivers in Suffolk can arrange an 'assessment of fitness to drive' through East Anglian DriveAbility.
They can be contacted by telephone on 01842 753029
Assessments take place at their centres in Thetford and Colchester. There is a charge for these assessments.
Blue Badge Scheme
A national scheme providing parking concessions for people, travelling either as drivers, or drivers of passengers who have severe mobility problems. To apply, visit their website or email email@example.com or call 0808 800 4005 option 2 (Monday to Friday, 9am to 5.30pm)

Motability is an independent, non-profit making organisation that runs the Motability Scheme.
If you receive a mobility allowance, the scheme maybe able to help you to lease a car, powered wheelchair or scooter.

Low Speed Scooters and Buggies
A variety of low speed buggies and scooters are available for driving either on pavement or road.
Get independent advice before making a purchase. The Disabled Living Foundation’s “Living Made Easy” website has clear, practical advice on buggies and scooters and you can also buy equipment from this website.
We suggest you buy from a local equipment supplier. Age UK Suffolk have a list of these. For a free copy contact our Information and Advice Team
People over state pension age, and eligible disabled people are entitled to a bus pass which will allow free off-peak travel on local buses anywhere in England. This can effect the use of travel vouchers, so if you are unsure of what you are entitled to, please give us a call on 01473 351234.
To apply for a pass for the first time, telephone the Bus Pass Information Line on 0345 600 0659.
The Senior railcard is available to anyone aged 60 or over.
To purchase a railcard online visit the National Rail website or you may wish to obtain a leaflet containing an application form from larger local Railway Stations.
There is no national concessionary scheme at present but you may want to contact your coach operator to see if they offer any discounts.
Travel Voucher Scheme
If you have a disability or long term health condition which makes it difficult to walk or use conventional public transport, you can apply for Travel Vouchers from Suffolk County Council. These can be used against the cost of travel on taxis and some community transport schemes.
You can apply for the Travel Vouchers in two ways:

If you find it difficult to get to the shops, a medical appointment, or to visit friends and there's no public transport available locally, a scheme called Connecting Communities may be able to help by taking you to an approriate bus route or train link.

Are you a driver aged 60+?
Would you like to take part in a research study and give your views about driving?
Suffolk County Council is looking for drivers aged 60 and above who would be willing to have a data recorder fitted in their car for around 6 months, and complete some questionnaires about driving.
As a thank you for taking part, free driving assessments will be offered.
