Date: Sunday 5 October 2025
Event: Age UK’s Silver Sunday 2025 – a national day to celebrate older people
Where: UK-wide
On Sunday 5 October 2025, communities across the nation will come together to celebrate Age UK’s Silver Sunday, one of the biggest celebrations of older people in the country.
Hundreds of fun activities, ranging from tea parties to nature walks, will take place across the country, giving older people the opportunity to make new friends, try new things and connect with other members of the community.
The day is dedicated to creating more opportunities for older people who are feeling lonely, isolated or simply want to change their day by trying something new. It’s a chance for everyone - businesses, charities, community and faith groups, local councils, schools, families and people of all ages - to unite in celebrating the valuable contributions older people make to our communities.
Why it matters:
- According to Age UK, around 1.5 million older people never leave their home for a social event[i]
- Age UK’s Silver Sunday provides opportunities for older people who are feeling lonely to reconnect with the communities and access local support
Last year saw over 1,300 free events take place nationwide, supported by volunteers and community partners. Some highlights included a special film screening of Mamma Mia at Regent’s Park, a brass band concert in Warwickshire, as well as English National Ballet holding workshops for older people. This year already has some exciting events and initiatives planned, including London Zoo holding a history tour, and Everyone Active, the UK’s leading operator of local leisure, will be hosting leisure classes for older people.
Paul Farmer, CEO at Age UK, said: “We’re excited that Age UK’s Silver Sunday is back again for 2025. It’s a fantastic initiative that brings people across the country together, serving as a reminder that older generations are a vibrant and vital part of our community. Please do get involved in an event near you, or why not hold an event yourself, and help to celebrate the older people in our lives.”
The events that are held each year can make a huge difference to the lives of older people, particularly for those who may feel lonely or isolated. Sandra, who took part in a Silver Sunday event previously, said: “Events like this are vital. I think Silver Sunday is wonderful and a chance to forget all my troubles. I feel upbeat and when I come to events like this I’m on cloud nine for days after. I feel like I’m young again.”

About Age UK
Age UK believes every older person should be valued and included. We’re working locally, nationally and internationally to change the way we age.
Together with our partners, we’re changing the day-to-day experience of getting older through essential services and local support – like help at home, exercise classes and digital inclusion. Local Age UKs deliver these services, using their expert knowledge of their area to transform older people’s health, wellbeing and finances.
Our specialist, impartial advice is changing how older people feel when they face a challenging issue – whether it’s care, money, health or housing. A call to our free advice line, a visit to our website, or a face-to-face appointment at a local Age UK can help change older people’s worries into answers.
Our friendship services are changing the issue of loneliness among older generations. From weekly chats on the phone and local in-person befriending to round the clock support from our Silver Line Helpline, we’re changing loneliness and isolation into comfort and connection.
We’re an expert voice on ageing, changing the way older people are treated and represented in society through research and campaigning. We work with local, national and international policymakers to challenge inequalities and push for the changes that’ll improve older people’s lives.
Through Age International we are changing the lives of older people facing emergencies and long-term challenges in low and middle-income countries.
Your support makes our work possible. By donating, campaigning and volunteering, you’ll help change older people’s lives – now and in the future.
